Discovery of a Thrift Shop Shopping Center !

I can't believe I never knew there was an actual thrift shop shopping center about 20 minutes from me. I accidentally discovered it about 3 weeks ago and I've had it on my "to do" list to visit them and finally did so.

Wow, 4-5 thrift stores all side by side, all 50-75% off entire store! This is bittersweet because on one hand I of course have thoughts of "yes, this is awesome!" But I know myself well..............those $1, $5 even 50 cents items add up quickly! I had to pray for willpower. But then again, at 50% off, I'd be getting such a great deal.

I found quite a few vintage purses I can sell.  I love to find things that I know people are looking for. Found tons of cheap vintage clothing but was able to really be selective with my choices. And I overlook items really carefully now. I found stains and tears I almost missed thanks to that. If I knew how to sew and trusted my stain remover skills I'd had gotten them as they were incredibly cool. But now, I tell myself how I will find more and is it worth it? So I do pass on these now. (Unless of course it's a Pucci or Chanel or something like that.)

Each thrift store had a great selection. One even had a "vintage section" and I thought " uh oh" but their prices were still reasonable. And, 50% off too.

I'm so excited I found this spot! I hit all 5 shops and I'm exhausted. But I didn't have to drive from one to the other and waste time and fuel.

It's really cool to have discovered these.

Thrift Stores Thinking They Are Antique Stores are OK with me

......................because they still miss the good stuff don't they ?  Well, at least what I consider good stuff. It's no secret I sell on eBay and if you know me or have read my other posts you know it's thrifting I love so much. eBay just makes it a perfect combo to buy all that good stuff I find.

Years back I tried to stop going to thrift stores because I was accumulating so much (I have a hard time not buying incredible finds) and it was a miserable experience. But I'm getting off track. We all know thrift stores have gotten in on the online selling business as they should. I go to the main Goodwill that runs their online auction site and I STILL find stuff. They don't know it all and quite frankly, what someone collects changes all the time.

I find though that when I do visit the "boutique" section of these thrift stores there really isn't anything I'm interested in. I suppose if I were an expert in antiques I might find some great gems but it's not usually the stuff I'm crazy about. So I wonder "out of the boutique" section in the dumps I guess they might view it as only to find my gems, ah, the pleasure of it all!

Here are some of my latest finds in the "non boutique" sections.  Can you see the yummy-ness in these stacks?

Can you all relate? What have you found?

Feeling Creative and Thrift Stores Can Fill That Need

I'd say I'm a pretty creative person at heart. I think that's why I love selling on eBay as it does lend itself to be creative. Getting those listings together with what vintage clothing item I may have up for sale is a lot of fun.

But when I'm talking creative, I really mean to create something. I'm thinking decoupage of some sort. What I love about it is I can buy so many things at thrift stores as my crafting supplies. Those muumuu dresses that get passed up or dirty or torn dresses (or shirts or skirts, etc) are perfect to use as fabric. Same goes for sheets and towels. There's also boxes, art work and whatever else has a pattern you can cut into.

I also like the idea of clear glassware and decorating with glitter or costume jewelry. Place a votive inside and what a lovely gift. And all you thrift store lovers know how much clear glassware you can find at thrift stores.

What have you all done with  your creative needs. I'd love for you to share!

My Love of Pastis Meets Mid Century Modern - No Way !

I was in a funk the past couple of days (do you ever get like that?) and my wonderful hubby surprised me with a trip to Long Beach to shop at some incredible vintage shops and mid century modern shops. I was in heaven! The layout of the store was like one of those antique malls where everyone has their own space. Except this one was not crowded or junky at all. You know how some of those can be ? And everything was mid century modern. No old antique dusty tins or anything like that. (Not that I don't like those.)

You probably don't' know this but  I'm a huuuuuge fan of the drink Pernod. It is a French Pastis drink. Being French I grew up with this drink and it's something I look forward to every day. Just one glass. Nothing more. Incredibly refreshing and tastes yummy!  You do have to be a fan of black licorice though. So anyway, anyone that comes across Pernod always think of me. I get bottles for my birthday and Christmas. You get the gist yeah?

Well, yesterday while browsing in this shop, my eyes first laid eyes on this cool carafe. Um hello? The shape. The colors! Everything screamed mid century modern. It came with a set of cups that matched it. I didn't take photos sorry. This is a pottery piece and I think it was signed. Maybe you all recognize it?

Well the combo pack of pastis AND mid century modern was a shocker to me. A pleasant surprise. Did I buy it? I wish. The set was $149. Probably totally worthy (didn't know about the artist) but out of my budget this particular day. I'm sure I'll regret it one day.

But I just had to share. It's the first time I've come across such a piece, and well, it sure did help me out of my funk!

Hi, my name is Brigitte and I'm addicted to Mid Century Modern

Okay, so as I look around my home I'm noticing more and more sleek line furniture, atomic this, boomerang that. Yeah I always loved it, was attracted to it and especially love to sell it.  But I kind of didn't notice how I'm slowly but surely transforming my own home into this era.

Not that this is a bad thing. But there's just something about it that pumps me up. The shapes, the colors (hello teal) and funky legs on furniture, I can see how collectors become collectors! I'm also jazzed about vintage barware. Me and the hubby entertain a lot so why not serve those fab cocktails in mid century modern style cocktail glasses? As a matter of fact I have some Dorothy Thorpe style Roly Polys up in my store now that might have to end up in my own cabinet.

Then there's the pottery. Oh dear. Well, I'm not too good at spotting collectible pottery. I can spot the shapes and styles alright but sometimes it looks like it might be something Aunt Martha made at the craft event. But if it's for me who cares right?

I'm wondering what you are all "accidentally" collecting now. Tell me I'm not alone!

Mid Century Modern Swag Lucite Hanging Lamp For Sale

Of all the things I like to pick for, mid century modern items, especially mid century barware , are items that really get my blood pumpin'. Even if the item is not original and a repo or is just decorative to look like that era, I still just die when I'm able to get my hands on them. But original goods? The best!

Here is something I found about a month ago. It was so darn cool that it was one of those items where I can't decide if I want to keep for myself or not. I usually hang onto it for awhile and let my feelings do their thing. Usually having ownership for awhile and enjoying it in my possession for a little while will do the trick.

This is a hanging swag lamp made of lucite or fiberglass or something like that. It is teal green and teal blue with diamond shaped 3D sections. It's just way way cool.

I think there is a home out there where this is going to be amazing. Is it yours?
